"Legally Undeniable: Criminalising Genocide Denial"
The International Nuremberg Principles Academy (Nuremberg Academy) is organising the Nuremberg Forum 2023 from 19 to 21 October 2023 at the historic Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, with the possibility of online participation.
The Nuremberg Forum 2023 will address the timely topic of genocide denial, by exploring denialism as a concept and in context, what it is, how it manifests itself and how to regulate it. With regard to genocide denial the main focus will be on the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide and the Srebrenica massacre. Experts will assess what multilateral and national efforts have been undertaken to address genocide denial, including prevention and punishment. Special attention will also be on legal responses to denial including relevant jurisprudence of international criminal tribunals related to speech crimes such as incitement to commit genocide, with particular focus on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
The Nuremberg Forum is open to the public. Prior registration is required. Further details regarding registration and the conference programme will be available in due course.
About the Nuremberg Forum
The Nuremberg Forum is an annual international conference organised by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy (Nuremberg Academy). It brings together leading scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society, and provides a forum for dialogue and critical exchange on contemporary international criminal law matters. Located in Nuremberg, the birthplace of modern international criminal law, the Nuremberg Academy offers a neutral space, and is thus an apt setting, for the necessary dialogue on the development of international criminal law and the implementation and interpretation of the Nuremberg Principles today.
